A hybrid is exactly what is sounds like. It is combination
of a mountain bike and a road bike. Most hybrid bikes have
a durable frame, and mountain bike parts. Hybrids also have
a high-rise stem and handlebars to keep the rider's position
upright and a softer seat and often a suspension seatpost
for added rider comfort. They also have an all terrain tire,
which have smoother tread than mountain bike tires, but
are fatter and grip better than road bike tires. What you
end up with is a durable bike that is comfortable to ride,
and can handle just about any terrain out there. Hybrids
are an excellent choice for commuters.

Cannondale
makes a full line of hybrid bikes to fit any rider or purpose.
Using the Adventure 400 same CAAD frame technology that
they use on their mountain and road bikes, these bikes have
strong, light, but comfortable frames. The Adventure 400
(right) is an example of a classic hybrid, with the upright
handle bars, suspension seat and fork, and smooth tires.
Cannondale shows innovation with their Road
Warrior 500 (left) which is a CAAD4 road bike frame, but
uses flat handlebars, fatter tires, and some mountain bike
components. This is a road bike with flat bars!
