Gear review: 2WD's sleep system
Mountain Hardwear Ultralamina 32 sleeping bag
AWESOME! synthetic stays warm when damp and dries faster unlike down, but just like down this new advanced bag is light (1kg/2.2#) and packs small. It tested good for me down to 30F and to 24F with the silk liner. Thanks James and Iris for hooking me up this winter!
Cocoon 100% silk travelsheet liner.
This weighs 6oz and keeps my sleeping bag nice and fresh, adds a few degrees too and can be used alone when its too hot for the bag. Could use a less cumbersome closure, otherwise great. Just washed it with the wool clothes....so clean :)
Thermarest prolite 3 sleeping pad
the standard quality hiking air mattress from the states. it works....keeps you insulated from the ground and is comfy. Rolls up small. weighs 600g/1.2# I think. You can puncture these so carry a patch kit. No cactus here so no flats (yet anyway).
Sleeping mask.
Needed to fall asleep when the sun is up 24-7. Mine cost 2 bucks atthe 5 and dime in W Concord MA. Had to sew one strap so far but now its fine
Simpson's mini pillow
Issah MacNeil hooked me up with this before he moved from orchard hill....thanks!!! The colors of the simpsons sitting on the couch really tie together my sleeping ensamble which is mostly orange (sleeping bag and thermarest). Works great, I use it every night and keep it clean in the travelsheets pillow pocket.
All this stuff fits in my small front pannier with some chamios cream to balance the weight some with the other front pannier. Functional, compact, and lightweight.....great stuff for bicycle touring
